For those of you who are new to
the UK, the 14th February each year represents ‘Valentine’s Day’ or
‘Saint Valentine’s Day’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine's_Day).
This is traditionally a day for you to celebrate your love for someone special (known
as your ‘valentine’) or to tell someone how much they mean to you. This is
normally done through the sending of a Valentine’s Day card (sometimes
containing a rhyming poem) or by buying your loved ones a gift such as
chocolate or flowers (traditionally red roses) or by simply doing something
nice for them.
Some people who are already in a
relationship or married will obviously know who their ‘valentine’ is, however,
for those people who are not in a relationship already they may receive cards
from a secret admirer or someone wishing to let them know how they feel about
that person. Why not ask someone you like to be your valentine by sending them
a Valentine’s Day card and address it from ‘your secret admirer’!?
Another tradition on Valentine’s
Day is to write a rhyming poem inside a card such as:
“Roses are red,
violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you.”
Other than buying someone
chocolates or flowers you may choose to spend Valentine’s Day with a loved one
by going out for a romantic dinner by candlelight, watching a romantic movie
(Romeo & Juliet? Casablanca? Love Actually?), going for a long walk
together (maybe it’s a bit cold for that at the moment!) or you might even
choose to perform a grand romantic gesture to show your loved one how much they
mean to you (just like one of these - http://10thingsby.com/2013/03/22/10-romantic-gestures/
but be careful it doesn’t end up like one of these - http://www.womansday.com/sex-relationships/10-romantic-gestures-gone-wrong-103418).
Finally, I will leave you with some great ideas if you are stuck for something
to do on Valentine’s Day in Liverpool this year - http://www.visitliverpool.com/blog/read/2015/01/ten-ways-to-say-i-love-you-in-liverpool-b21.
Why not let us know your thoughts on Valentine’s Day?
What are your
plans for this Valentine’s Day?
What’s the most romantic thing that you have
done for a loved one or a loved one has done for you?
What’s the best rhyming
poem you have heard?
